ZESARA C. CHAN

Ms. Chan is a litigation partner and a member of the Firm’s Securities Enforcement Defense Group.  For twenty years, Ms. Chan’s practice has focused on dispute-related counseling and commercial litigation in the areas of securities, real estate, intellectual property, business tort and contractual claims.

Ms. Chan has extensive experience in securities matters and complex commercial litigation, including investigations and enforcement actions brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulatory or self-regulatory organizations, class actions alleging violations of the federal and state securities laws, and securities arbitrations.  Ms. Chan’s practice includes broad experience in complex commercial litigation, including business torts, intellectual property misappropriation or infringement, and partnership disputes.  She advises both individuals and entities engaged  in a variety of fields, including investment advisers, securities brokerage firms, financial services, real estate and technology clients.  She also represents clients in real estate disputes involving landlord/tenant issues, contract disputes and other related matters.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

From 2004-2007, Ms. Chan served as the Co-Chair of the Securities Litigation Committee of the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association, after being elevated from acting as Co-Chair of the Public Offering Litigation Subcommittee from 2001-2004.  Ms. Chan has also served as a Division Director in the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association. She is a member of the Litigation Section of the Bar Association of San Francisco, the American Bar Association and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. Ms. Chan has also been distinguished as a volunteer with the Volunteer Legal Services Program in San Francisco for her pro bono work on behalf of battered women. Ms. Chan was formerly associated with the law firm of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe in San Francisco.

Ms. Chan has been listed multiple years as a “Super Lawyer” in Northern California Super Lawyers magazine in the area of Securities Litigation.

EDUCATION

After graduating magna cum laude from Brown University in 1984, Ms. Chan worked in the Investing Banking Group at Prudential in the mortgage securities area.  She received her law degree from New York University in 1988.
