Mr. Farano is of counsel in the Firm’s Litigation Department and a member of the Securities Enforcement Defense Group. His practice focuses on SEC enforcement matters, regulatory and internal investigations, securities litigation and other business litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Farano was a founding member of Ingenio, Inc. (sold to AT&T), a start-up company in San Francisco where he served in both legal and business capacities. Prior to his time at Ingenio, Mr. Farano was associated with Debevoise & Plimpton in Washington, D.C. where he focused on securities litigation and white collar criminal defense.
Mr. Farano has been involved in numerous SEC and other regulatory matters representing individuals, boards of directors and entities. In addition, Mr. Farano has represented hedge fund managers and investment advisors in both private arbitration and state court litigation. He has also represented individuals and entities in general commercial litigation matters involving a range of issues including business torts, intellectual property and professional negligence.
Mr. Farano is a member of the Bar Association of San Francisco, and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, for which he served two years as a member of the ABTL Leadership Development Committee. He is also a member of the Jamestown Council - the fundraising board for the Jamestown Community Center, which serves children and families in San Francisco’s Mission District.
Mr. Farano is admitted to practice in all state courts in California, New York and the District of Columbia, as well as the Northern and Central Districts of California and the Ninth Circuit.
Mr. Farano received his B.A. in History, magna cum laude, from Yale University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his law degree from Yale Law School where he served as the Submissions Editor for the Yale Law & Policy Review and Director of the Greenhaven Prison Project. Following law school, Mr. Farano served as a law clerk for the Honorable William M. Hoeveler in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
