Shartsis Friese Adds Five New Lawyers
to Busy Real Estate, Transactional, and Litigation Practices

Shartsis Friese LLP announced today that Gabriel S. Chao, Lisa A. Jacobs, Erik W. Lawrence, Joseph V. Mauch, and Kajsa M. Minor have joined the firm as associates this Fall, increasing the total number of attorneys at the firm to 56.

Managing Partner Art Shartsis commented, “I’m very proud of this new class of dynamic young lawyers who are bringing such a wealth of legal and business experience, as well as academic achievement, to the firm. Gabriel S. Chao is a member of the Firm’s Real Estate Department. His practice is focused on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including acquisition, disposition, financing, and leasing of commercial properties. He assists and advises real estate investment trusts (REITs), life insurance companies, and other institutional clients and public companies on real estate matters. Mr. Chao received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1998, where he graduated with distinction, and his J.D. from the UC Davis - Martin Luther King, Jr. School of Law in 2001.

Lisa A. Jacobs, who was previously an associate with Latham & Watkins, is an associate in the Litigation Department. She has a complex commercial litigation practice which focuses on contracts and business torts, unfair competition, trade secrets, and other business litigation. Before joining the Firm, Ms. Jacobs served as a law clerk to the Honorable David W. Hagen of the United States District Court for the District of Nevada. Ms. Jacobs received her B.A., with honors, in Comparative Literature from the University of California at Berkeley in 2000 and her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law in 2003, where she was a member of Order of the Coif.

Erik W. Lawrence is an associate in the Business Department. His practice focuses on general business and corporate matters with an emphasis in representing investment funds and advisers, securities, and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to law school Mr. Lawrence served as an associate vice president in commercial banking with Wells Fargo Bank. Mr. Lawrence received his B.S. degree in Managerial Economics from the University of California at Davis in 1997, where he was a captain of the football team. He received his J.D. from the University of California at Davis in 2007, where he was a member of Order of the Coif and Managing Editor of the UC Davis Law Review.

Joseph V. Mauch is an associate in the Litigation Department. He received his B.A. in English from Santa Clara University and his M.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his J.D., cum laude, from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, in 2007. While at Hastings, Joseph was a member of the Thurston Society; served as an extern to the Honorable John E. Munter, San Francisco Superior Court; and received the Witkin award and CALI award for excellence in Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, and Islamic Law.

Kajsa M. Minor is an associate in the litigation department. She earned a B.A. in Business Economics from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 2002 and a J.D. from University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2007. Ms. Minior served as extern to the Honorable Martin Jenkins, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
