Shartsis Friese Adds Two Leading Patent Lawyers to Establish Patent Prosecution
San Francisco, March 18, 2014 – Shartsis Friese LLP announced today that Cecily O’Regan and Bill Cray, formerly with Greenberg Traurig, have joined the firm as Of Counsel to establish a new patent prosecution practice group.
O’Regan and Cray are both registered patent attorneys with more than 50 years of combined experience in patent and intellectual property law. O’Regan focuses her practice on securing worldwide intellectual property protection and related business strategies for emerging technology clients, with an emphasis in the medical device, biometric sensor, software, and clean technology sectors. Cray prepares patent applications for electronic, electrical and electro-mechanical arts, including controllers and control systems, analytic, diagnostic and metrology systems, optics, software and Internet technologies.

O’Regan, who is a co-inventor on several medical device and software patents, is an Adjunct Faculty at the University of San Francisco, School of Management. Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig she worked for Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, was Vice President of Legal Affairs for a medical device start-up company, and worked in the legal departments of both Agilent Technologies and Hewlett Packard Company supporting the medical products division. O’Regan received a J.D. from University of San Francisco School of Law, an L.L.M. in Innovation, Technology and the Law, with distinction, from University of Edinburgh, and a B.S. from the University of California, Irvine.
Cray counsels companies on intellectual property law issues regarding business transactions as well as on the acquisition and licensing of technology and administration of intellectual property portfolios. In addition to his law firm experience, he has served as head patent counsel for Fortune 500 companies and divisions of Fortune 500 companies, including Digital Equipment Corporation, Analog Devices, Rockwell Semiconductor Systems (now Conexant), and Cymer, Inc. He was also the chair of the Semiconductor Industry Association Law Committee. Cray received a JD from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law and a B.S. in Theoretical Mathematics from the U.S. Naval Academy and served as a Nuclear Submarine Officer in the Navy upon graduation.
