SAN FRANCISCO, June 23, 2026: Shartsis Friese LLP is pleased to announce that Kat Peters-Miller has been named a partner. A member of the firm’s Investment Funds & Advisers group, she was previously Counsel after rejoining the firm in 2022. She originally worked at Shartsis Friese from 2012-2017, first as a summer associate and later as an associate in the Investment Funds & Advisers group.

“Kat is an integral part of the Shartsis Friese Investment Funds & Advisers Practice, so formalizing her status as a firm partner is a natural evolution of her role,” said Shartsis Friese Managing Partner Neil Koren. “Her adept representation of clients with billions of dollars of assets under management has earned her a reputation as strategic counsel on everything from cross-border fund launches to SEC compliance.”

Kat advises private fund managers on the wide range of regulatory issues affecting domestic and offshore investment vehicles, helping clients manage risk and optimize growth opportunities. She has extensive experience in private fund formation that spans hedge, venture capital, private equity, fund-of-funds, and hybrid funds. She advises clients on all aspects of the lifecycle of an adviser’s business, including formation, registration, operations, M&A transactions, seeding arrangements, separately managed account agreements, business continuity planning, and ongoing compliance.

A seasoned attorney, Kat’s work has helped the firm maintain its annual recognition in the Chambers USA and Chambers Global guides in the area of Hedge Fund Law, and she has been recognized as a “Rising Star” in Super Lawyers. Prior to rejoining Shartsis Friese, she worked with many institutional investors and fund sponsors in the Asset Management and Investment Funds practice at K&L Gates. Kat is licensed to practice in California, Washington and Oregon and is active in numerous organizations, including currently serving as co-vice chair of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section – Federal Regulation of Securities Subcommittee on Private Funds, on the executive committee of the Oregon State Bar Association’s Securities Regulation Section, and as pro bono counsel for the Portland Alternative Investment Association.
