Shartsis Friese Welcomes Carol Wang as Senior Tax Counsel
San Francisco, January 16, 2024 – Shartsis Friese LLP is pleased to announce that Carol Wang has joined the firm as a Senior Counsel in the Tax Practice.
Carol most recently served as Legislation Counsel for the Joint Committee on Taxation, where she served on the foreign and pass-through teams, working on international and partnership aspects of H.R. 5376 (the “Build Back Better Act”), Pub. L. 117-169 (the “Inflation Reduction Act”), H.R. 3938 (the “Build it in America Act”), S. 3084 (the “United States-Taiwan Expedited Double-Tax Relief Act”), and other pieces of tax legislation. Before serving Congress, Carol was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis in its Tax Department.

Carol has extensive experience in a broad array of tax matters with special expertise in investment fund formations and offerings, sponsor liquidity and minority investment transactions, fund- and sponsor-level tax considerations arising from investments, and sponsor-level economic and tax planning and structuring. Additionally, Carol has considerable experience with U.S. inbound and outbound tax law and the structuring of cross-border transactions.
